Republican representatives Nick LaLota and Andrew Garbarino were quick to pat themselves on the back for getting the “SALT” cap raised — something that was supposed to be eliminated completely as promised by the President. However, what they gave up getting this cap is far more important to the struggling residents on Long Island. Severe cuts to Medicaid, Medicare and programs for health and food for the people most needy far outweigh their minor success.

Worst of all, they showed us that they work for the party not the people who elected them — the same party that has now adopted the style put forth by the President to use adjectives both good and bad to describe people and policy. Their so called “big, beautiful” bill was anything but. It has more tax cuts for the already-privileged and a price tag that will be a burden to generations way, way into the future. Ironically, I guess it would be okay to say “sleepy” Andrew can take no credit since he was asleep when the vote was called.

America is no longer about the people. It is about the richest controlling those in power to get what is best for them. We have even stooped so low that we sell access to the White House for personal profit. Yet both the White House and its occupants are supposed to serve the people and the country. No branch of government or member is excused from being party to this. They only care about us when they are running for re-election so that they can stay in the office and enjoy the luxuries of their job at our expense. Oh, what have we done to our once-beautiful country?
