One person was arrested and charged after Riverhead Police conducted underage alcohol sales compliance checks at 39 retail establishments across Riverhead Town this week.
Diamond Rainford, 19, of Riverhead and an employee of the Speedway gas station on the corner of Route 58 and Ostrander Avenue (870 Old Country Road) was arrested and charged with one count of first degree unlawful dealing with a child, a class A misdemeanor, according to a Riverhead Police press release. Rainford was processed and released on a desk appearance ticket with a future court date, police said.
The compliance checks, which occurred Monday and Tuesday, targeted the sale of alcohol products to patrons under the age of 21, police said.
The 38 other stores checked as a part of the operation, conducted by Riverhead Police Department’s Community Oriented Policing Enforcement (COPE) Unit with the aid of the Riverhead Community Awareness Program (CAP), were found to be in compliance with the law, police said in a press release.
